why you carry one
Wire costs real silver to buy and nothing to salvage, and the world is strung with it already. Every dart corridor in the dungeon and every boulder run in the jungle temple is wound with the stuff, and stripping it on the way through usually funds an entire first wiring project. Disarming the traps is a side benefit rather than the point.
handling
Holding it draws every wire on screen, natural traps included, so it doubles as the tool you pull out when you want to know what a suspicious pressure plate is attached to. When several things share one tile it strips them in a fixed order, actuator first and then yellow down through red, so getting a single color out of a bundle means clicking through everything stacked above it.
It also beats The Grand Design on one specific job. For a diagonal zigzag run, turn smart cursor on and hold the button, and the cutter walks the line for you.
