How to craft it

=16+Mythril Anvil

Set bonusForbidden armor

Full setDouble tap {ToggleArmorSetBonusKey} to call an ancient storm to the cursor location
Full set defense26

The bonus applies while the helmet, chestpiece and leggings are all worn together.

who wears it

Take the hybrid label literally. The damage bonus applies to magic and summon at once, and there are extra minion slots on top, so this is built for a player alternating between a staff and a spell rather than committing to one class. A pure summoner and a pure mage both have better options at this tier.

Newer versions let you mix Adamantite and Titanium freely across the pieces instead of demanding the full amount in a single ore, which removed the old problem of a world that rolled the wrong one.

the ancient storm

Double tapping the set bonus key throws dust at your cursor, and where it lands a column of storm rises and grinds anything inside it. It costs a small amount of mana and only one can exist at a time. Calling a new one dismisses the old one a moment later, so there is no stacking them.

The storm is the whole reason to wear this. Its hit rate is high enough to shred worm enemies, and The Destroyer in particular takes an absurd beating from a well placed column, because every segment passing through registers on its own.

Its damage counts as magic and summon simultaneously. Anything that boosts all damage types therefore contributes twice, so an Avenger Emblem or a Celestial Shell is worth more here than the tooltip implies. Its crit chance follows your magic crit rather than anything summon related.

the ways it refuses to appear

The dust cannot pass through blocks. If anything sits between you and the cursor, the cast fizzles and the mana is gone with nothing to show for it. The target spot also needs a decent vertical opening or no storm forms at all, and once one does form it needs an unbroken line from you to its central column. Break that line and it fades about a second later.

It expires on its own after a short time or once it has landed a set number of hits, whichever comes first. Against a single tough target that hit cap arrives quickly, so recasting is part of your rotation rather than a place-and-forget deployment. In cramped underground fights you will spend as much attention on placement as on your weapon, which is the main argument against the set.

It can still be summoned while you are Stoned, which is a small mercy in a fight that applies it.

how it compares

On paper it is behind Mythril armor with the magic hood. The extra minion slots and disciplined storm use are what close that gap and then push past it, so how well this set performs depends heavily on whether you actually keep a storm up.

Against Spider armor the trade is a little damage and a minion slot in exchange for a meaningful chunk of defense. A player using only summon weapons is better off in spider. A player switching between magic and minions is better off here.

It is the desert answer to Frost armor, obtained the same way from the equivalent snow content, except frost pushes melee and ranged where this pushes magic and summon.

notes

The floating sign behind you takes its color from a dye on the robes even when a vanity chest covers them, and it gives off a small amount of light like a mining helmet does. The design borrows from Set, the Egyptian god of storms and chaos, right down to the squared-off ears.
