Robe

On its own this is a plain vanity shirt, cheap to weave once you have silk, cut to look like what the dark casters and Tim wear underground. The reason to bother is what it becomes. Feed it a gem and you get a colored magic robe that carries real stats, and with the matching hat there is a mana bump on top of that.

So keep the silk. If you are starting a mage, the robe line is the first thing that makes the class feel like a class, and it costs almost nothing next to hunting down armor drops at that stage.
