Drops
Betsy Trophy10%getting her to appear
Betsy is not something you run into. She exists only inside the Old One's Army, and only in its third and hardest tier, which the game keeps locked until Golem is dead. You start a run by dropping an Eternia Crystal onto its stand, and she arrives at the front of the seventh and final wave. There is no summoning item for her alone and no way to meet her out in the world.
She is tied to the event in both directions. If the crystal falls or the run is abandoned she vanishes with everything the portals brought, and the wave restarts from the beginning. The wave has no timer either. It ends when she dies, so waiting is not a strategy. She can be refought as often as you are willing to pay for another tier three run, which is the only way to farm anything she leaves behind.
the attack loop
She has no second phase and no transformation. What she has is a fixed running order, and once you have seen it twice you always know what the next few seconds hold. She opens with two charges back to back. Then she pulls out to one side, lines up level with her target and flies straight across while pouring fire downward the whole way. A single charge follows. Then she moves forward and throws a handful of small fireballs that arc as they fall and burst on you, the crystal or plain terrain. She swings around in a wide circle, repeats the fire pass, and ends the cycle with a roar.
Depending on how you move and how hard you hit her, she can skip steps out of the middle of that list. The opening pair of charges, the first breath pass and the closing roar happen every single time.
what each move asks of you
- The charges telegraph with her turn. A dash or a hover across her line clears them, and they are the least dangerous thing she does.
- The breath pass covers a horizontal band, so the answer is vertical. Get above or below the line she has committed to instead of trying to outrun it sideways.
- The fireballs fall under gravity and detonate on whatever they touch, so a long flat platform under your feet becomes a row of explosions. Spaced platforms let most of them drop through.
- The wide loop is her quiet moment. Use it to reposition, refresh a potion, and clear whatever is still alive from the last roar.
burning is what actually kills people
Her contact damage is survivable in every mode. The burn from her breath is what ends runs, because it keeps ticking while your attention is on the next attack, and in Master it lasts long enough to bridge two of them. It also shuts off passive regeneration, which quietly disables the Nebula set bonus at the exact point in progression where you are most likely to be wearing it. Lifesteal is a different mechanic and keeps working, so a Spectre hood build or Vampire Knives still pull health back through the burn.
An Obsidian Skin Potion stops the debuff landing at all and is the clean answer. Without one, build a shallow pool into the arena and dip through it to put yourself out. Honey does the same and adds regeneration on top, but it drags your movement down unless you are also running a Flipper Potion, a poor trade in a fight this mobile. She cannot be set on fire herself, so fire debuffs on your weapons are dead weight.
the roar and the wyverns
The roar is the only attack that changes the shape of the fight rather than just threatening you. Three Etherian Wyverns appear around her and three more come out of each portal on the map. They are always the tier three version regardless of how far along the world actually is, so there is no easier variant to look forward to.
There is a ceiling on it. The portals will not push past six between them, and if five wyverns are already alive she skips the summon entirely. That cap is the interesting part. Leaving the previous batch alive means the next roar produces nothing, but you are then fighting her with a swarm on you. Clearing them fast keeps the arena readable and buys a fresh set every cycle. The best answer is usually a weapon or sentry line with wide coverage, so the wyverns die as a side effect while your damage stays on her.
she will go for the crystal
Her targeting is proximity based. Stay near her and she comes after you. Drift too far and she turns on the crystal, which is how runs get lost with the player still at full health. Hovering close is the defensive play here, the reverse of most boss fights. The wyverns grind the crystal down too, which is the real reason the roar deserves respect.
what is on the other side of her
Killing her finishes the wave and the event with it. Her four weapon drops are one per class, a sword, a staff, a bow and a polearm, a leftover from where she came from: the same fight in Dungeon Defenders 2 hands each to one of the four base characters. Master adds a relic and a chance at an egg that hatches a miniature version of her as a pet.
Her treasure bag is odd. It is the only one in the game with nothing Expert exclusive inside, so opening it gets the same weapons the normal drop table would. She is also the only event mini boss with a bag at all.
where she comes from
She is an import. A crossover update brought the whole Old One's Army over from Dungeon Defenders 2, her included. Her pattern of flying passes and thrown projectiles is close to Duke Fishron, minus the phase changes. Despite the name she is built nothing like this game own wyverns, which are long segmented worms modeled on Chinese dragons. She and her spawn are the western shape, a single body with wings.
