Ray Gunner

It only exists during Martian Madness, which itself only happens after Golem, so nothing about it shows up early. It hangs back and fires red lasers on a steady rhythm instead of closing on you, which is a different problem from the martians that charge. An arena built to hold enemies at a distance does nothing here, because distance is where it wants to be. Break the sight line or kill it. There is no third answer.

The rider and the mount are separate enemies. Kill a Scutlix and the Scutlix Gunner on its back does not die with it, it dismounts and carries on as one of these. Every mounted pair is two kills, and turning your back on something you just dropped is how you take a laser in the spine. It is also the source of the Laser Drill, Anti-Gravity Hook and Charged Blaster Cannon, which makes it a target worth hunting rather than avoiding.
