The gate is the Traveling Merchant, and he only carries the pieces now and then, so this is something you assemble over many in-game days rather than something you go out and buy. Keep gold set aside so a piece never shows up on a day you cannot afford it.
What it changes is real. Faster placement and a wider reach mean big builds stop involving constant repositioning, and the automatic painting removes an entire pass over everything you make. If you build at all, it is the first accessory that changes how building feels rather than just how fast it goes.
quirks worth knowing
The painting half works from your inventory alone, no slot required, and it grabs whichever paint sits earliest in your inventory. That trips people up when they are carrying several colors. There is a toggle in the corner of the screen for switching it off.
The range bonus stacks with almost nothing. Only the toolbelt, the toolbox and the builder potion add on top of it, so hunting for more sources beyond those is wasted effort.
