The bonus applies while the helmet, chestpiece and leggings are all worn together.

what stealth does

The identity of this set is a toggle. Double tap down, or up if you rebind the key in settings, and your character fades toward invisible over a fraction of a second while ranged damage, crit and knockback climb in step with the fade. The half people underrate is the aggro drop that comes with it. Enemies running the standard ground and flying routines stop firing projectiles at you while you are stealthed and not using an item, and many of them stop chasing you at all. In multiplayer they go and bother somebody else instead.

keeping it on

Stealth survives more than you would expect. Walking, grappling and flying all preserve it, so you are not rooted to one spot. What breaks it is a dash, climbing onto a mount, or taking a hit. The hit is the real cost, because the bonuses vanish instantly and the fade has to build back from nothing. In a fight where something is landing steady chip damage on you, you rarely see the full benefit at all. The set is at its best against a single boss you can out-position and at its worst in a crowded arena.

the penalty and how to erase it

On the ground stealth slows you badly, and that slowdown is the entire drawback. In the air it only reduces acceleration, and your top flying speed is untouched. A pair of wings therefore dodges most of the cost already, and adding a Soaring Insignia removes it outright, since nothing in the set bonus touches flight. Any post-Moon Lord ranged build that intends to fight airborne can treat the downside as though it were not there.

quirks worth knowing

  • The armor gives off teal light, brighter with each piece, and goes dark in stealth. Bad if you wanted a lamp, good if you wanted to vanish.
  • The Psycho Knife stealth does not stack with this. Hold both and the knife's version takes over, with only the knockback doubling up.
  • Town NPCs will not throw emotes at a stealthed player.
  • For total invisibility in PvP, run Shadow Dye or the Familiar set on top of stealth.
  • The silhouette is built on the Storm Diver. Of the four Luminite sets, this is the only one whose bonus is not a buff you can see in the bar.
