How to craft it
putting something on it
It needs a background wall behind it, not a floor. Once it is up, activate it with the item you want displayed selected in your hotbar and the item goes on. Activate it again while holding something else and the two trade places, so redressing a hall of weapons takes seconds instead of a trip with a pickaxe. When you do want it gone, the first swing takes the displayed item down and the second frees the rack, so there is no way to destroy what you hung on it by accident.
how it will look
The weapon lies against the grain of the wood, opposite to the way the plank runs, which is easy to forget when you are lining up a wall of them and expecting a neat row. Oversized sprites shrink to fit the frame. Size modifiers survive the transfer, so a Massive reforge visibly hangs larger than a Tiny one, and picking a reforge for looks rather than stats is a real option on a weapon you have retired. The frame itself reuses the backing art from trophies, so racks and trophies sit together on a wall without clashing.
it takes more than weapons
Anything the game files count as a weapon goes up, including tools that deal damage. Past that there is a list of oddities that also fit: coins, fishing poles, golf clubs, the Coin Gun, the Rod of Discord and its upgrade, every kind of thrown bomb and dynamite, land mines, and fish. Fish are the useful one for decorating, since quest fish, the Zephyr Fish and the Balloon Pufferfish all mount, which turns a row of racks into a trophy wall for an angler's room.
what it refuses
Favorited items will not mount at all and the game gives you no explanation, so unfavorite first if a rack seems to be ignoring you. The placed artillery is out: the Snowball Launcher, the Cannon and the Bunny Cannon have nowhere to go. And the Freeze Bomb is the single explosive that will not go up, for no reason anyone has explained, when every other bomb in the game will.
