what it is really for
A fifth off shop prices sounds like a shopping convenience, and the real use is reforging. Rolling for a good modifier eats gold in a way nothing else in the game does, and shaving every attempt across hundreds of rolls is the largest single saving available to you. It now takes a cut off the Nurse and the Stylist as well.
how it stacks
It does not stack with the Greedy Ring, because the ring already contains it. It does stack with resident happiness, and multiplicatively, so a well placed shopkeeper plus the card lands far below the base price. Build the happiness setup first and the card gets better rather than redundant.
equip before you talk
Prices lock in when the conversation opens. Swapping the card on with the shop window already up changes nothing, and reforging works the same way. Put it on, then walk up.
what it will not do
Sell prices are untouched, so it does not make your loot worth more. Anything you sold and then wanted back costs the full amount to buy again. Tavernkeep stock paid for in Defender Medals ignores it entirely.
farming it
Ordinary pirates drop it too rarely to target on purpose. The Flying Dutchman is the realistic source, and the usual approach is to push the invasion past halfway and then get high enough that ground enemies cannot reach you, which keeps the ships cycling and nothing else bothering you.
