what the pickup range changes
Coins normally have to be walked over. With this equipped they get vacuumed in from most of a screen away, which matters more than it sounds. Kills from flying enemies stop dumping their money into pits you cannot reach, and an arena farm no longer needs a water column or a conveyor floor to sweep the drops toward you. If you have ever watched a Blood Moon payout fall into lava under the platforms, this is the fix.
farming one
Ordinary pirates drop it so rarely that grinding them for it wastes the whole invasion. The Flying Dutchman is far more generous, so the efficient route is to push the event past its halfway mark, then park on a small platform or a flying mount high enough that ground spawns cannot climb to you but low enough that the event keeps feeding. Spawns that cannot reach you despawn and get replaced, so the ship keeps coming back. Parrots will still fly up, and shooting them down costs nothing because they are not part of the invasion counter.
it is a stepping stone
The range effect does not stack with anything it later becomes, so there is no reason to wear two coin magnets at once. Its real job is being the easy third of the Greedy Ring recipe. The Lucky Coin and the Discount Card from the same event are the parts that will actually keep you there.
