worth the detour
Living trees are easy to walk past because they read as scenery, but the hollow ones have a room inside with a chest in it, and that chest is one of the few early sources of a summoner weapon. If you intend to play summoner from the start, checking every oversized tree on the surface before you do anything else is the quickest route to a minion.
the wands come as a pair
The two building wands are linked. If one turns up the other is in the same chest, so you never have to hunt for a missing half. Together they let you grow living wood and leaves anywhere, which is the reason people keep cracking these trees open long after the rest of the loot has stopped mattering.
the minecart is a bonus, not a target
The cart is cosmetic and the odds are not good enough to build a farm around. Open the trees you happen to pass, take the wands, and treat anything else as a surprise.
