Sandstone Chest

Every naturally placed one carries a guaranteed headline item from a desert-only pool, plus a couple of extras on top. That guarantee is what makes sweeping an underground desert worthwhile instead of a chore: you know each cabin you clear pays out something you cannot get from an ordinary cave chest.

The pool splits by how deep the chest sits within the biome. Ones near the top pull from one list and the deeper ones pull from another, so if you are hunting a specific item you should be working the right band rather than sweeping everything you trip over. Sinking a shaft to the floor of the desert and working back up is usually faster than following whatever tunnels the world generated.

Explosives here arrive as the scarab version, which blow out sideways rather than in a ball. That is exactly what you want when tunneling under sand that would otherwise collapse on your head. Torches are not themed, so you still light the place with the plain kind. These chests also never generate low enough to inherit the deep underworld loot pool, so do not expect a shadow chest surprise.
